As indicated by Hindu legend, when Sati Devi's dad Daksha Prajapati was playing out a yagya, he welcomed every one of the Divine beings with the exception of Mahadev to the ceremony.[4] Sati went to her dad's yagya function and asked him for what good reason he had not welcomed her significant other. Daksha Prajapati addressed that Mahadev drank liquor, partook in hashish, rested in burial grounds, wore a snake around his neck, had dreadlocks, covered his body with debris, and wore tiger stow away, consequently he was unsatisfactory to go to such a significant yagya. Unfit to endure this affront to her better half, Sati bounced into the yagya fire and surrendered her life.

Mahadev was so irritated by her demise that he sent Birbhadra and Bhoot gana to kill Daksha Prajapati and obliterate the yagya. In the wake of demanding his retaliation, Mahadev began to grieve his significant other. Mahadev traversed the world conveying Sati's body. During this time, Vishnu delivered his Sudarshan chakra and injured Sati's body so it very well may be swarmed by bugs and decay. As Sati's body began to crumble, the ground on which her body parts fell became Shakti Peethas, spots of love. In this cycle, her left shoulder fell on the Mallagiri mountain. Mallagiri was then alluded to as Malika.[3][5]
